Toba Khedoori was born in Sydney, Australia in 1964. Khedoori has lived and worked in Los Angeles since 1990. Her early work is marked by her accurate drawings and the use of negative space, often at large-scale. Large canvases, barely perceptible, make you level out the urban sensibility to capture the subtle language of the drawings in the room.
Khedoori usually describes the architectural forms from a distant perspective, transforming everyday objects and familiar spaces out of context.
In the recent years, she has moved from paper to canvas. Khedoori produces pieces on a smaller scale that moves between representation and abstraction. Like her work before, these pieces are enigmatic and acutely detailed. In an art world full of moving images and saturated colors, Khedoori remains committed with the silence, slow and demanding process of working by hand.
This exhibit is the first presentation of the new work of Khedoori in a Museum.
